Bio

I am a director, producer, and writer born and raised in Sucre, Bolivia. My interest in telling stories started when I was a kid, creating fictional stories about my family having superpowers and fighting poverty, drugs, and corruption. When I was 12, I became a coordinator at PASCAR, where I interviewed victims of prostitution, cancer, human trafficking, and HIV/AIDS, which later inspired me to write novels and direct award-winning plays. My theater work includes THE FRUIT AND THE TREE (2015) and THE PASSION OF CHRIST (2014), both of which won Best Play and Best Director at the Catechistic Dramatic Festival in Bolivia. After serving in the military for a year, I went to college to study Systems Engineering but soon enough I realized that my love for technology was because of the countless sci-fi and fantasy movies I cherished so much. So after a semester of Art and Video Production studies in Chicago, IL, I was admitted to USC’s School of Cinematic Arts’ MFA Production program and came to LA to pursue my dreams.

At USC, I focused on projects that explore misrepresented communities around the world. My personal goal is to show the world the beauty of the Hispanic community and the uniqueness of their traditions and believes by exploring both fantasy and drama – the creepy kind of drama. After two years at USC, I was awarded the Lionsgate-Televisa Grant, a grant that supports emerging Latino filmmakers. My writing/directing work at USC includes THE BURIAL, a short film about a Latina woman who after mistakenly being declared dead, tries to communicate with the outside world to prevent her body from being buried; SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, a short horror about a woman who deciphers a radio host’s sinister intentions with the help of her Latina friend; BE MY LIGHT, a music video for Russian-American singer Marina V; and SKETCHWORLD, an Augmented Reality commercial for Microsoft.

During my time at USC, interned at Vox Pop films, where I worked as a Production Assistant and Assistant Editor. I was also a Directing and Editing Teaching Assistant for many semesters. In my last semester at USC, I was awarded a directing grant that funded my thesis film called TEDDY MATE, an LGBTQ+ story of a unique couple in a magical and conservative world where teddy bears transform into humans to become people’s partners in life. As part of the LGBTQ community, it was important for me to bring a special vision that portrays the beauty of my people. My next project is a historical film called SWEET POTATOES, which follows the story of Luis Miramontes, the Mexican scientist who synthesized the main component of the birth control pill. The project is fully funded by the Sloan Foundation and finished production in June 2019. While we edit the last one, I will also edit a feature documentary directed by Daniel Druhora, a fellow USC alumni. In my free time, I enjoy going away from the city, looking for restaurants with genuine Latin food, margaritas and great music that will bring back memories of home.
